What to Expect at Your First Sunday at The Bridge
A plain walk through a typical Sunday morning at The Bridge Church, so your first visit feels familiar before you even arrive.

Walking into a church for the first time can feel like arriving at a party where everyone already knows each other. If you live in San Marcos or anywhere in north San Diego County and you've been thinking about visiting The Bridge Church, it helps to know what the morning looks like before you leave the house. Here's a plain walk through a typical Sunday, from finding the building to the coffee afterward, so nothing catches you off guard.
Where and when to show up
The Bridge Church meets every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The church has a new meeting place: the Casitas Del Sol Clubhouse at 1219 E Barham Dr, San Marcos, CA 92078. The clubhouse belongs to the Casitas Del Sol Mobile Home Park, so if you're driving in for the first time, follow the church's own advice and look for The Bridge signs. That's the easiest way to be sure you've found the right door.
A good habit for any first visit is to arrive a little early. Give yourself ten extra minutes to find the signs, say hello, and settle in before things get going at 10. If you're bringing children, the kids' sign-in starts at 9:50, so that's the time to aim for. We'll cover how the kids' hour works in another post, but the short version is that it starts a few minutes before the main service does.
The music
Worship at The Bridge is mostly upbeat. The worship team plays with drums and guitars, and Carlos is on keyboard. If you picture a hushed room and a single organ, adjust that picture. This is a live band, and a Google reviewer summed up the feeling this way: “The music is fantastic and great people attend!”
You don't have to be a singer to feel at home. The church describes the purpose of worship as experiencing God and falling in love with him through “authentic Worship, Thanksgiving and Gratitude from the heart.” That's an invitation to be honest, not to perform. Sing loudly, sing quietly, or just listen for a song or two while you get your bearings. Nobody is grading you.
The message
After the music comes the message, and it's Bible-oriented. Pastor Michael Barnett leads The Bridge. He grew up in north county San Diego, spent sixteen years serving in Minnesota, and moved back home to San Marcos. Past visitors have described the church in simple terms. One reviewer wrote “Very caring people. Bible oriented sermons,” and another called the congregation “Caring. Inclusive. God loving ppl who share the works of the Bible.”
If you've never opened a Bible, or you haven't in years, you won't be left behind. Part of the reason the church hands out a printed program is so you can follow along. That brings us to the next thing you'll notice.
What you'll be handed
On Sunday you'll receive a program. Inside it, or tucked in with it, you'll find three practical things:
- A message outline, so you can follow the main points and jot down notes while the pastor speaks.
- A communication card, where you can write down a prayer request.
- An offering envelope, for anyone who chooses to give.
The communication card deserves a second look. The church says on its site, “We would love to pray for you or help you in any way we can.” If you're carrying something heavy right now, such as a health scare, a job worry, or a family strain, that little card is a real way to let people know. You can write it down quietly and hand it in without having to explain yourself to anyone out loud.
After the service
When the service ends, stay a little while if you can. There's fresh coffee, and there's usually a snack or lunch afterward. This is where a visit often turns from watching to meeting people. The Welcome Team, led by Cindy Marks, is there to greet newcomers, and the Set-Up Team, the folks the church calls “the guys that make it happen,” gets the clubhouse ready every Sunday morning.
Sharing a table after the service is one of the simplest ways to find out whether a church is the right fit for you. You get to ask a question, hear a story, and see how people treat one another when nobody is on stage. Plenty of people decide whether to come back based on the conversation over coffee rather than anything said from the front.
